Standard for Qualification of Electrical Equipment Maintenance Workers for Electrical Power Equipment & Systems

Scope

  • Establishes minimum requirements for a Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Worker (QEMW).
  • Details the minimum training and experience requirements for a worker completing electrical equipment maintenance and provides criteria for documenting qualifications.
  • Details the requirements for an independent and impartial qualification system for Electrical Equipment Maintenance Workers.

Description
Developed to support the implementation of NFPA 70B, Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance, the ANSI/NETA EMW-2026 standard ensures safety, consistency, and reliability across maintenance practices.

Qualification provides a recognized method for QEMWs to demonstrate that they meet the requirements set by an impartial, nationally recognized organization. It assures employers, peers, and the public that the qualified individual has the technical knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform these critical tasks competently and safely.

Through the establishment of the ANSI/NETA EMW-2026 standard and the Qualified Electrical Equipment Maintenance Company (QEMC) Program, NETA continues its leadership in supporting the NFPA 70B maintenance requirements and advancing the electrical testing industry.
